Boutique international insurance broker La Playa has popped a growth hormone, taking on 9 new staff in its London and Cambridge offices since the start of the year. And it’s hungry for more.
Established in 1999 as “broking’s bright young thing”, La Playa is an independent insurance broker providing specialist policies, expert professional advice and relationship-based service in the UK and USA for niche sectors: Arts & Entertainment, Media & Production, Science & Technology and Private Clients. The current growth drive has welcomed…
La Playa is a small broker with big ideas: “We’re hungry - we want to quadruple in size by 2015 so 2011 is a year of bold strategic moves for us. Our great challenges are finding high calibre people for our specialist practice groups, and preserving our culture of quality, fun, panache, "can do" and social responsibility as we grow”, says CEO Mark Boon.
“Last year our UK operation grew by a recession-beating 11%, with client retention at 98% and claims loss ratios below 30%. We also launched an office in New York - with many arts and technology clients starting transatlantic operations, it made sense to provide what they need in both territories. And listening to clients has led us to an enormous commercial opportunity! We’re now one of the few brokers providing specialist insurance on both sides of the Atlantic”.
“Although I think insurance is becoming a more recognised “profession”, it’s still difficult to find qualified brokers with specialist sector knowledge, an entrepreneurial spirit and outstanding people skills – particularly outside of London. If you’re out there, stuck in a rut on the corporate treadmill and dying to be creative with like-minded professionals – come and talk to us! We still have opportunities for executives at various levels working in a field you love with people you can trust”.
