London, New York and Cambridge-based insurance specialist La Playa has made two key internal appointments, promoting Tracey McCreath to Director, Media, Arts & Entertainment, and Paula Hawthorne to Head of Performing Arts.
The move demonstrates La Playa’s commitment to its niche markets, with the development of practice groups in highly specific fields.
Tracey McCreath ACII has been with La Playa for 3 years, having previously run global insurance portfolios for Aon in the City. A keen dancer herself, she has been instrumental in developing La Playa’s Dance Portfolio policy, developed in response to the burgeoning dance school market in the wake of the hugely popular TV dance shows such as Strictly Come Dancing. Alongside her passion for dance, Tracey runs cookery evening classes and keeps the office in supply of spectacular cupcakes!
Paula Hawthorne ACII came to La Playa 8 years ago, having previously worked as a City loss adjuster. She has pioneered Performing Arts Portfolio, the company’s exclusive policy for the performing arts. In particular, Paula is one of the UK’s leading brokers for orchestras, and now works closely with the Association of British Orchestras on their own insurance scheme. An expert on Cancellation Insurance, Paula’s phone is the one ringing off the hook when bad weather hits! Paula gets stuck into music with her children, running a strict practice regime and regularly taking them to orchestral events run by client The Britten Sinfonia.
“Tracey and Paula are two of the most experienced brokers in the country in media and arts – I’m delighted to be handing over the reins into such safe hands” CEO Mark Boon.
La Playa weathered the recession with 11% growth in 2010, as well as opening an office in New York. Established in June 1999 as broking’s “bright young thing”, La Playa’s “Insurance with Intelligence” approach has brought a refreshing new voice to the industry, providing first class service and specialist advice in the niche areas of Media & Production, Arts & Entertainment, Science & Technology and Private Clients.
