Boutique international insurance Broker La Playa has appointed chartered wealth manager Henry Metcalf (Chartered MCSI PCIAM) to its financial services arm - encouraging clients to see the bigger picture, with insurance as integral to their financial planning.
Henry Metcalf has joined La Playa from OCM to head up La Playa Wealth, as Partner and Investment Manager. An experienced wealth manager, Henry offers financial planning, estate planning, investments and pensions and family protection for private clients and charities. He has an in-depth understanding of the financial markets and extensive experience running both multi-million pound funds and portfolios.
Having worked both for boutique investment firms and as a global asset manager, he has Investment Management and Stockbroking in his veins. A member of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments, he provides a safe, strategic pair of hands for funds, and holds exceptional customer experience at the heart of his values. Henry is a devoted family man, a guitarist and something of a ‘petrol-head’; his spare time is spent with his wife and 2 young children, playing the blues and car–watching.
One of the issues Henry aims to tackle with clients is the pitfalls for investors in choosing ‘active’ over ‘passive’ investment strategies*.
“It’s easy to see how the word ‘active’ gives all the right messages to an investor”, says La Playa’s Henry Metcalf. “But in fact, investors are frequently getting short-changed by the lure of this word, and ‘passive’ investments can often yield a higher return on your money.”
“Some sectors are more suited to active management – commercial property, technology, or smaller emerging market economies, where expert knowledge can arguably seek out value. But on the whole, my view is that Asset Allocation is key, and being in the right asset class at the right time is what is important, not the past performance of a fund manager who is having a good run.”
