Commercial Broker, Science & Technology

An award-winning broker with offices in London, New York and Cambridge, La Playa occupies a unique position as a boutique-sized international niche broker, and is a registered broker at Lloyd's. 

Our dynamic, high-growth Science and Tech practice is working in exciting new markets, including Fintech, Gaming and Mediatech as they develop in the UK, USA and Far East.  If you love pace and change and have a passion for these sectors, you’ll love this!

As a Commercial Account Executive/Handler within our Science & Technology practice, you’ll develop, manage and service some key customer relationships, strategic partnerships and prospects, contribute to strategic business development plans (UK and international opportunities) for the Science & Tech practice, and work closely with marketing staff to identify opportunities, develop campaigns and implement tactics to build the business.  In addition, broking duties will include:

A)    Efficient handling of quotations for new business, renewal and mid-term adjustments including:

  • Maintenance of your own monthly renewal lists
  • Production of billing and policy documents
  • Insurer negotiations
  • In-person communication with clients/prospects (face-to-face)
  • Preparation and presentation of submissions to market
  • Preparation and presentation of reports to clients/prospects
  • Client/prospect/introducer/insurer visits as appropriate
     

B)   Maintaining up‑to‑date policy and client records.

C)   Effectively dealing with and resolving accounts queries, including liaison with clients, insurers and accounts department

D)   Handling and resolution of clients’ claims, including liaison with insurers and loss adjusters.

E)   Contributing to operational policy, company visioning and strategic development.

F)    Adherence to and assistance with regulatory compliance procedures.

This role will be ideal for you if you’re a motivated self-starter with a background in commercial broking, a passion for science and technology, and experience with complex commercial clients.  You enjoy working with people and as a result, are able to establish great relationships, whether face to face or over the telephone.  You’re bursting with ideas and have a proven track record of developing business and identifying/exploiting affinity opportunities. You’re happy when working individually or as part of a team. Your exceptional communication skills shine through, whether you’re presenting information in written or verbal form. 

Your hunger for success is balanced with a zest for life, and this position offers scope for developing your own “empire” within La Playa.

This opportunity is principally based at our London offices near Bank station, but includes some opportunity for international travel.  A competitive salary package includes a profit-linked bonus, contribution to pension and 25 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays).

Client Relationship Manager – Private Client
